A Blast From The Past – Living Labs

From ETUG’s Spring 2022 Workshop: Emerging Educational Technology Roles – Supporting Students

Have you heard the terms, “Living Labs” and “Campus as a Living Lab”?

Coming from the world of sustainability, these terms refer to “a pan-institutional, collaborative approach to hands-on learning that uses the campus as a vehicle to engage students, faculty and staff in solving real-world challenges.”

You can find out more about Living Labs in the province from BCIT and UBC.

This presentation from UBC at ETUG’s Spring 2022 workshop is a good example of a living lab. Adding co-op student roles to the UBC Learning Technology Hub team as a primary resource not only assisted the team in delivering services during the pandemic, but it also provided a means for students themselves to inform the support that students need. What better learning opportunity is there for all of us to learn from?

Watch this lively discussion between Tim Kato (Team Lead and Kalev Hunt from the Learning Technology Hub) and Doris Li (Co-op Student and Learning Technology Rover)
