While you may recognize BCNET as the provider of shared service platforms at your institution, their role goes far beyond that. For the past 37 years, BCNET has been a key partner in supporting BC’s higher education and research community in a variety of ways.

BCNET provides essential infrastructure and services, from the networks that connect our institutions, to the platforms and software that support academic and research excellence, to the secure technology environments we rely on each day.
This commitment to supporting higher education is reflected in the range of teaching and learning tools they offer. A few of BCNET’s shared services include Desire2Learn and Moodle (for institutions looking for a turnkey solution), as well as Kaltura, PebblePad, and Turnitin. Beyond cost savings and integration support, these shared services foster a collaborative community where institutions can exchange advice and best practices on configuring and using these platforms.
You may not know that BCNET has been:
- supporting high speed network connectivity for TRIUMF, Canada’s Particle Accelerator Centre
- recognized by CAUBO (Canadian Association of University Business Officers) for their Electronic Research Administration System (eRAS)
- partnered with Quantum Lifecycle Partners to help BC PSIs reduce emissions by recycling and reusing their old IT hardware
