Briana Fraser, Julian Prior, Mirabelle Tinio
Julian Prior is currently Chair of Educational Technology and an Advisor at snəw̓eyəɬ leləm̓ / Langara College. He came to the west coast in 2016 having taught Sociology for twelve years at a further education college in the U.K. He completed his Masters degree in Education, Technology & Society in 2012 and his areas of interest include open educational practices and digital media.
Mirabelle Tinio is an EdTech advisor, instructor, and chair of modern languages at snəw̓eyəɬ leləm̓-Langara College, in Vancouver, B.C. She has a master of arts in French literature from UBC and a Maîtrise de lettres modernes from the Sorbonne Nouvelle – Paris III. In addition to teaching, she offers workshops on learning technologies, supports instructors with online course development, and facilitates book clubs. She particularly enjoys book clubs as a place where synergy occurs: drawing together the community of teachers/learners to share ideas and brainstorm solutions to challenges.
Briana Fraser is a Learning Technologist in snəw̓eyəɬ leləm̓ Langara College’s Educational Technology department. She holds a Master of Education, with a focus on distance education, from Athabasca University. Her current professional interests include digital pedagogy, accessibility in teaching and learning, universal design for learning, open educational practices, and community building.
Session Description
In the pre-recorded video, members of Langara’s Ed Tech team (Briana Fraser, Julian Prior, and Mirabelle Tinio) will
- Discuss initiatives introduced during Covid that helped to build community, increase communication and enhance engagement.
- Introduce the concept of asset mapping as a means of identifying strengths and resources that can be build on to address departmental needs.
The synchronous activity session will include:
- A brief re-introduction to asset mapping
- 5 minutes of brainstorming to identify departmental needs
- 15 minutes of brainstorming to identify assets (This will be done in breakout rooms. Members of the same institution will be placed together)
- 10 minutes of brainstorming to identify opportunities
- 20 minutes of whole group discussion
