ETUGers will get together Thursday May 9th and Friday May 10th for our latest Spring Workshop.
Join us for Digital Literacy: Celebrating 30 Years of Educational Transformation at the SFU Harbour Centre (555 W. Hastings St., Vancouver) and Online. This workshop is open anyone interested in instructional design, educational technology and the intersections of technology and learning. ETUG is a community centred on the post-secondary sector in British Columbia, Canada, but interested folks from other places and other contexts are welcome.
Learner preferences and characteristics in BC higher education have obviously changed a lot in the last few years. More recently, certain trends have become apparent – namely a greater expectation for varied learning modalities (online, hybrid, and in-person) as well as a wider spectrum of digital literacy. At the same time, post-secondary institutions have had to adapt to various disruptive changes in technology, while being resilient in the face of an uncertain educational landscape.
In this spring workshop (which marks ETUG’s 30 year anniversary) we will explore the interplay of our educational ecosystem and the various technologies driving change. The focus will be on practical issues and solutions, as well as the very real technology-related challenges facing post-secondary right now. For example, what are the best practices for supporting digital literacy considering where technology is at this time? How are institutions keeping in mind the human ‘behind’ the machine? How are colleges and universities supporting a greater demand for online and hybrid options?
Proposals should aim to address one or more of the following questions:
- What trends in student demographics and expectations are you observing? How do these trends inform, or relate to, changes in educational technology?
- What expectations are there in terms of technology use in the workplace? How are these expectations informing program content and delivery?
- How are institutions supporting the delivery of online, hybrid, and in-person classes?
- How do you accommodate different learning styles and abilities when integrating digital literacy into your lessons?
- Are there specific strategies you use to ensure inclusivity in digital literacy education?
- How do you share successful practices and lessons learned with your colleagues?
- What challenges do you face in incorporating digital literacy into your teaching?
- How do you overcome these challenges, and are there any innovative solutions you have implemented?
Do you have something to share? The call closes at the end of Friday March 29th Friday April 5th.
